After buying my 2006 limited in late August 2005, I wrote a review on MSN's auto user review forum...Mine was one of the first for the NC, and the title was "My Porsche (carrera) is collecting dust in the Garage now"...That was exactly true...a pristine 1993 RS America....0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds, spine tingling engine sounds, etc...and I loved driving my Mazda soooooo much more!! I mean, they are both sports cars, but the Miata made me smile every time I drove it...the Porsche, while much "faster" was too serious...wanted to be on a racetrack, had no sense of humor, if that makes sense.... So today, my ebay auction ended, and a nice PCA member in northern CA won it...Just wanted to let you know that I put my Porsche where my mouth was, and sold a perfectly good Porsche. I would not have been able to part with it if the MX-5 wasn't such a wonderfull sports car. Luckily, it is. Is it more fun to drive than a faster 911....the answer for me is, yes, 98% of the time, it sure is. Thanks Mazda!

Kmf911 – Very interesting, In march of ’05 my wife bought me a left over ’04 LS that I liked so much that four months later I ended up selling my Vintage built 550RS Porsche Spyder. Within a few weeks I ended up regretting my decision, I now know that I will be picking up another 550 in the not to distant future (hopefully).

Geez, I wanted to hear several "After discovering the Miata, I sold my (fill in your expensive to buy and maintain veh here) and have never been happier! Not, "I made a horrible, horrible mistake selling the Porsche" etc...Was it a real 550? I do have sellers remorse to some degree already, and the Porsche is still in my garage...but I could have driven it to work today, but instead drove the Miata with the top down (including on LA area freeway) and was very happy to do so....I could smell the flowering trees, the grass, see the stars peaking thru the clouds...I could almost taste the environment, with 68 degree wind whipping around me...driving that little car is like automotive Nirvana, has been every day since late August 06 when I discovered what all the fuss was about for the MX-5....... BTW, there are alot more driving events that SOCALM and associates put on than local PCA chapters do, with generally much more participation... Kevin.

Kevin – Don’t get me wrong I truly love the Miata and as a matter of fact last November I ended up buying a real clean 1990 Miata to go alone with the ’04. The only problem was as soon as my son tried the ’90 he loved it so now he drives it most of the time. During the first three months after get the ’04 I only drove the 550 a couple of time so I mistakenly thought I could live without it. As for what the 550 is, it is a replica built by Vintage Spyders. Mine was built in 1997, I was the second own of it and I had it for about 5 years. You can see picture of my old car at www.pbase.com/550joe/myspyder and pictures of both the Spyder and my ’04 sharing garage space at www.pbase.com/550joe/mx5

I realize this is an old thread, but I wanted to post my pro-Miata input. Just before I moved from Boston last year I decided to sell my black '94 since it had some rust and I could only take one car with me (OTM being of all things a Saturn that could carry alot o' stuff).
Of course, once I got here I began looking for another interesting car. I ran the gamut of about 2 dozen potentials, from older Z cars, old British sports cars (had a Spitfire and loved it), to Fiats (had an X1/9 and loved it), modern Jap coupes, C4 Corvettes even, you name it. But of course I eventually did get another Miata, this time a '95 (black again) because I had decided that there simply was no other car out there that offered so much bang for the buck. ;D
Just my $.02,
Danny
