Hey Guys,
I am looking to buy the car of my dreams (ie:Miata) (and Join SOCALM soon ! ) but I am still hesitating between the 1999 Miatas and the old ones (1990 -1997) . I am looking for a used one (I cant afford a new one) .
I just have a question , is it worth spending more money on the 1999Model (looks nicer) or is it better to get an older version (maybe meachnically better)
I found 1991 Miata for 2K$ (170Kmiles) I found a 1999 Miata for 6K$ (120KMiles) .
Sorry for my newbie question and thank you for any help.

Hamdi – Honestly I would not buy either one. Since you are looking at a ’99 for $6K I am assuming that you can afford at least $6,000.00 dollars on a Miata. If in fact that is the case I would say keep looking!!!! $6K will get you a very nice low mileage 1990 ~ 1997, case in point last November I picked up a 1990 with a hardtop for $6,500.00. I could have gotten the car without the hardtop for $6,000.00 even, the car only had 57,000 miles and is in outstanding condition. Since last November I have come across about a half dozen others in similar condition and mileage. Bottom line, look at and drive as many as you can before jumping in, don’t buy on impulse!
Good Luck!

Good luck with your hunt! There are advantages either way. Personally, I'd avoid the 1990-1991 because of the crankshaft issue. I've read on miata.net many people think the 1994 is the best model because of the change to the 1.8 liter engine yet before a lot of other things added weight to it. Either way, you can't go wrong...
