Last week my 1999 Miata 10th Anniversary Edition experienced an irregular idle few minutes after the engine start. I had to get to work so I was forced to drive it on the freeway. That is when check-engine light came on. Once I arrived at work, I hooked up the diagnostic tool and found out that the it was for "No. 2 Cylinder Misfire". Although the car is still drivable, I can sense that there is a clear deterioration in performance. Can anyone suggest a good mechanic in Orange County? Thanks.

I dont live in OC so i dont know a mechanic. but you want to check your spark plugs first and then the spark plug wires. ( sometimes they get eroded or eaten away by a rodent. you might not see the cut on the wires but it doesnt take much for the current to fined the path of least resistance and jump spark = miss fire) you can chage all that your self. when changing wires (if changing plugs dont help) make sure you change one wire at a time. thats a must, you could mess up you firing seq.

We had intermittent cold start misfires and rough running. Our mechanic checked a forum, and the most probable cause was a defective coil. I don't like installing expensive parts on a "Maybe this will fix it" scenario. But the new coil was the fix. It hasn't done it since.
